Patrington Haven Leisure Park Owners and Team Raise Over £4000 for Macmillan Cancer Support

As many of you know, the previous weekend marked Macmillan Cancer Support’s annual Coffee Morning event and the owners and team on the park certainly played their part in raising money for this fantastic charity with an event on Saturday morning.

Of course, there was coffee and cake but the owners and the team also added a few extras to raise as much money as possible. There was a fantastic raffle with almost 100 prizes to be won and a giant pink teddy bear was up for grabs as well.

A special mention must also go to Mr Tompkinson who very generously donated £500 to Macmillan, which he won at the annual Owner’s event hosted at Patrington Haven Leisure Park following The Lawns Holiday Home Expo.

The team at Patrington Haven Leisure Park also played their part by taking part in the Total Warrior obstacle course challenge back in June.15 members of the Patrington Haven Leisure Park Team took part in Total Warrior to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Support.

Total Warrior is set in the stunning countryside of Bramham Park, a Grade I listed 18th-century country house in Bramham, between Leeds and Wetherby, in West Yorkshire. Total Warrior is an extreme event with distances varying from 3k to 12k, the team opted for the 6k distance. Being able to cover the distance was a minimum requirement; the obstacles and terrain make it much harder than a standard event.

The team arrived in Leeds excited to get stuck into the mud with a mix of nervousness along with wondering if they had the fitness and stamina to finish the event.

The 6k course involved 17 obstacles including Human BBQ, Peaks of Pain, Mud Moguls and Cement Mixer.

By overcoming climbing walls and crawling through mud, the team manged to raise an impressive £1,150 for the charity. A huge achievement for the team along with an amazing result for the Macmillan charity.

We asked one of the team to tell us about their experience of taking on the challenge…

“We did it, we completed Total Warrior!

For me this was a massive challenge not only physically but also mentally. I signed up to do something similar the year previous but bottled it. However, this year I decided I could do it due to the encouragement of the team here at Patrington.

On the day I was ridiculously nervous, I got to the first obstacle and instantly told myself I couldn’t do it. I didn’t have time to think anymore and before I knew it, I was being thrown over the wall by the rest of the team!

As a team we all completed the full course in good time. We all had our own fears but that also meant we had our own strengths which allowed us to help each other and complete the challenge.

I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and also getting to know those from other departments around the Park too.

That’s why I love being a part of the team here at Patrington. We encourage each other to be the best we can be.

I would do it again, yes, but don’t tell Guy!”

Overall everyone at The Park would like to thank the owners who put in a lot of time and effort to raise money for this very worthy cause. Without their hard work and dedication the coffee morning event would not be possible. We would also like to congratulate the team once again for their amazing dedication and achievement.
